Sort by "predicted rating vs. average"
When I come to movie lens, I care less about what other people think about movies. (When I do, I got to IMDB/RottenTomato and look at their lists.)
And I assume that if one prefers a particular genre, then they wouldn't care about if it is a 3-star or 4-star movie in other's mind.
So what I wish is that the personal preferences shall considered, and the predicted rating - average is a strong indicator for genre preferences.

I agree, this would be a great idea. I'm mostly happy with the wizard recommendations, but I often feel like I wan't less "obvious" recommendations. Every time The Godfather or Schindler's List turn up in my recommendations I have to groan a little. Yes, I know I'd probably like them but I knew they were highly regarded movies anyway. I didn't get any new insights from that recommendation.
What I often want from movielens are the insiders' tips. The first dozen movies in the "your rating vs average" list is a way better reflection of my personal taste in movies than just a look at the films I rated highly. So sorting by predicted vs average will probably give me some films that I'd love despite them being not as positively reviewed and discussed by others.
