Thanks for the idea – yes, we do have the information to add that filter, good to know that there’s a use case!

I'd like to know what they consider useful tags. Before they asked us to tag I used my tags very sparely and am still doing so. I've always though actors were pretty useless to tag. No matter how much I like an actor I don't tag their movies when them being in them because the system seems to already know that. If they want that information I can do it but it isn't useful to me so I don't.

The tags I've always found most useful are things that are actually in the movie or how the movie feels to the viewer. Does it involve politics, space travel, espionage, sword fights, blackmail... does it feel exciting, bleak, absurd, surreal...

If tags like actor/director actually help I'll add them but it would only clutter up my personal tag so I'd prefer not to.

I've wondered this at times too.

I feel like it would be useful to give some superusers the ability to merge tags.

I find the MovieExplorer to be pretty useless. In the list of movies most of the time I haven't seen a lot of them and the ones that I have seen I'm not necessarily interesting in watching a similar movie to that right now.

Maybe if it only gave me movies I've rated and then gave me recommendations it'd be more useful but I think even that would be too cumbersome.

What I would prefer would be an option where you could input a minimum number of movies, probably at least five, and ask for similar movies. I would enjoy seeing how this would work with your "tag genome" there are times where I'll look at similar movies, which I assume are heavily based on the "tag genome", and think I get why these movies are similar but I don't want to watch any of them. But I think if I put these five movies I like together maybe I could get interesting recommendations.
