Bring back the stars Legend
From time to time I forget if a 3 star movie was Good or Ok and so on for other star ratings. The legend helps me(us) be consistant with rating movies.

Popup: Help the community by adding tags
A popup that comes in a few different forms came up wanting tags for a rated movie.
Have no problem with quid pro quo but:
- The popup had no link to the actual movie despite various typical points that normally would such as the movie photo, and movie title. Having a link back to the movie would help jog the memory...
- As was the case, had actually added more tags to the movie than the whole community. This seems a pointless affair, the likelihood of adding a new tag(s) to a movie is surely going to be much…1 voteThanks for the feedback. That feature is no longer live, as it was part of a short-term research experiment.

Display Issue: "Sort By" dropdown on search result page [and elsewhere]
On page: https://movielens.org/explore?q=Amateur
sort by:
recommendedratings
release date
date addedCurrently pops out to the right, due to "excellent" UI positioning in the first place, this results in half of it not appearing offscreen to the right in Chrome and 1/3 in IE. This needs to pop in to the left in its current position, seriously where was the testing? It is a bizarre world out there, and perhaps it is self-fulfilling design philosophy but features such as "sort by" should not be dismissed, users do use such features if they are CLEARLY made available and EASY to use.…

High quality costume dramas
Edwardian, Victorian, Vanderbilts, Million dollar princesses. ect.
1 voteI have no idea what you are asking for – would you please clarify?

Way to filter by release year
Would be nice having a configurable filter by release year. Have been recommended 70~80's movies I will probably never watch and are cluttering my recommendation list =.
Please add this feature -1 voteYou can add a “release date” filter to any search (see the dropdown). Does this get you what you’re looking for? Possibly you’re looking for a way to make these filters more persistent.

Bring Back the Star Legend Ratings Guide
Hi! Dig the new site, but I really miss the "Star Legend" ratings guide that was in the upper right-hand corner of the old site. I can't find it anywhere. It's necessary, because different sites use different ratings criteria. For example, Goodreads.com uses a five-star system where two stars is "It was OK", but on Movielens, two stars means "Fairly Bad".
1 voteThanks for the feedback. I’m going to close this idea; please instead leave your feedback on this duplicate idea:

Can you please distinguish films that I have already seen from those that I haven't?
I don't remember every film I've seen and I used to look up Movielens to check. This is not possible anymore, as there is no difference in layout for recommended ratings and existing ratings. I find the new layout altogether pretty shit if I may say so. After many years and more than 1300 rated films I am seriously considering giving it a rest.
1 voteDoes https://movielens.org/explore/your-ratings not work for you? Also, click the “list view” for the no-graphics view, which you would probably prefer.
You are not the first user to say negative things about the interface without suggesting anything helpful. Use classic.movielens.org.

What happened to Movielens??
Really poor recommendations. Your algorithm has been ruined
1 voteSorry to hear that. If you describe how it’s worse, then we can try to make it better. Surprisingly, we are not actually trying to ruin your experience.

New site design is truly awful
Where is the advanced search?
I hate the new site design. I find the dumbed-down, Amazon/Google like interface awful, superficial, and unhelpful.
Why do you think people really use movielens? For me, it is certainly not to be presented with pointless images and prettied-up pages that aren't functional.
And by the way, I'm not using a mobile/cellphone to access the site. The assumption seems to be that the site user is using their thumb to navigate. That is an incorrect assumption. I want functionality and useful features, not dumbed-down pretty pages.
Scrap it please.
1 votePlease include constructive thoughts in future messages, and we will consider them. Mean-spirited rants don’t actually help us much, though they do make us feel badly. Please keep in mind that this is a free service developed by a research lab, not a commercial venture.
In the meantime, just keep using classic.movielens.org.

why different recommenders if i cant compare them?
if i could sort by "your rating vs predicted rating" i would have an idea. the whole point of this website for me is to get accurate predictions. looking through 50+ films to have an idea which recommender works best for me is not a thing i wanna do
3 votesBecause we are a research lab, and we are attempting to learn from that feature. Both “the wizard” and “the warrior” have similar accuracy characteristics.
If you don’t like the feature, don’t use it.

Thanks for the feedback.
About your ratings is actually there – https://movielens.org/profile/about-your-ratings
We’ll try to make this feature easier to find.
There is an active ticket with “newest additions”, we’re working on that:

MovieLens does not seem to be sorting correctly.
When I view the list of top picks for me, and chose the sort option "recommended", I notice that the sorting does not entirely correspond to the predicted star ratings. For example I have several 4 star predicted movies mixed in with 4.5 star movies in the sorted list.
1 voteThanks for the bug report.
That is actually by design – we now take a number of factors into account when building lists of recommended movies. Predicted rating is the most important factor, but no longer the only factor.

I suggest a layered approach to feature extraction for nuances

Mobile
Hi,
I appreciate that you have put a lot of work into this remodel. For the mobile version, I would love to have a list view without thumbnails. I don't need the pictures and it limits the number of
Titles to just two a page on my iphone. I can't see a list at a glance. I'd rather have a much higher density of text based titles without thumbnails. It was much more usable previously because I could glance at a list of titles you recommend. Thanks for a great ad free service. I see that I can use classic.movielens.org…2 votesThanks for the feedback. I’m going to close this as a duplicate of
I understand your desire to use an image-free version. How does the “list view” feature work for you? (not supported on the front page, but works on all other search pages)
- Don't see your idea?
