    Howdy,

First, this sounds more like a bug report -- which is best handled through the uservoice issue tracker, or just by emailed us. That said -- Can I ask you to check back on the page in around an hour? There are a few things in the movielens tagging system that tend to lag behind by around an hour and new tags might be one of them.

    Howdy,

While I'm interested in this idea in principal I have a few questions we should sort out before it's worth digging deeper:

    1. How is this different than the existing genre system?
    2. How is this different than the existing tagging system?
    3. Where would the data for this come from?

Right now if I'm understanding what you want, it's pretty similar to the tagging system (in that it's more detailed than just the standard genres, right?) but if so, what is the value _on top of_ the existing tagging system? Additionally, for something like this to work we would need a source of data for cataloging the movies. Right now we use TMDB for most of our data and I don't think they offer information at this level.

I'm not sure I know what this is offhand either. Could you, by any chance, post here, or email us a screenshot?

    Howdy,

Just so I'm clear -- is this a request to track the movies that have been recommended for addition by one specific user (I.E. you want a list of the movies you specifically have added) or a list of all movies that have been added to MovieLens?

(I think I know what you mean, but I could see either interpretation and would like to be sure I'm replying correctly)

While we won’t be overhauling our recommendation algorithm, we do hope to review the tuning of their parameters. Until them, please see the comment for advice on how your personal recommendations might be improved.

    Howdy,

We've been hearing reports lately about strange behavior from our recommender, and reviewing the tuning of our algorithms globally is one of the things on our todo list.

Ultimately recommendation algorithms can be rather inscrutable, so I don't know that I will be able to exactly explain the example you describe, where a 1 star rating led to being recommended the sequel. I can say that it depends on which recommendation algorithm you are currently using (MovieLens offers 4) -- two of the recommendation algorithms are not highly responsive to user input (this is intentional -- they are designed for users as they enter the recommender system and do not have many ratings to base recommendations on) Of the two high-quality recommenders, one of them (the wizard) only updates it's model of your preferences nightly, so a rating might not immediately be reflected in your recommendations.

Other than giving the algorithm a little time to see if it better understands you after it's next major model rebuild (usually nightly) I can also recommend using the "Star menu" (it's next to the account menu on the top-right, and displays your number of rated movies next to it) this menu will allow you to switch recommendation algorithm, if one of them is not modeling your preferences well, you may find that a different algorithm models your preferences better.

Hope that helps you optimize your experience while we work on the backend to make sure our algorithms are globally tuned as well as possible.

    Howdy,

Could you give me a little more information about this issue. I quickly tried to replicate it and wasn't able.

Howdy, Thanks for bringing this to our attention, We'll get on this ASAP.

I will say that the "give feedback" link in the footer works on our end, but the wishlist status does not. Could I ask you to double check the give feedback footer? On our end, what we see is a brief pause and then a popup with the feedback form.
