  1. Where did my wish list go?

The wish list is one of the best features. Where did it go?

Click on your username in the top right, it’s one of the links under there.

Probably one of those links we should also have in the “main” menu on the left.

  2. Feature a robust search engine

The search engine is the most important part of the front page.

Not sure if we’re “robust” or not, but we’ve added a bunch of search features plus a pretty fast autocomplete on the search box.

  3. More available 'similar' films

When you are viewing a films page there are only 7 similar films listed below. The old system gave a quiet extensive list which was useful for finding new films to watch in a similar vein to one already seen.

You can already change your ratings. I think what you’re asking for is the ability to see your rated movies in a list. We’re going to add that back in soon.

    (Done!)

  5. where is your famous movie calculator? tags? why genres?

    1) movie calc was the incredible feature, distinguishing you from any other engine. i cannot find it now. removing it would be very strange turn; it was uber useful and extra fun to use.
    2) don't really like new mobilish design - much more limited and less informative.
    3) never supposed genres to be useful. most interesting stuff cannot be categorised; it's some specific and subtle set of features (or tags, as you put it) which allowed to specify exactly what one looks for.
now your site looks like just an average movie database. hopefully it will allow yet to…

  6. why "similar" list is soo limited now?

i really loved endless list of similar movies, allowing to dig deeper, behind the films i've already seen. now it's too limited, hardly giving any new titles.

  8. Give the option of looking at lists or icons

When you give me a list by icons I find it hard to see the ranking. I like seeing a list by name, no prominence given to pictures, that I can sort by the criteria I choose.

If you click on “search tools”, then click the “list” icon, you get a no-frills search interface. I hope this gets you what you’re looking for!

  9. Don't Make "Sequels" a Preference Category

I took your survey for previewing the new "New Account" interface, and it threw me for a loop when "Sequels" was offered as a category I might enjoy. (I think it was Harry Potter, X-Men, and Shrek 2, with the categories "School, Witch, and Sequels".) It just doesn't make sense. I can't imagine anyone would just like "sequels", regardless of what the movie was about. I recommend removing that tag as an available preference category.

Thanks for the feedback! If we push this through to a “real” system, we’ll make sure to get rid of that tag.

  10. Make it possible to see which movies are on the wish list

In the old search results it was possible in a glance to see which movies were already on one's wish list. It would be nice if there was a small check (or something similar) on the movie image to let you know without having to click on whether that the movie is already on your wish list.

  12. Make sure the menu at the top of the page opens when the menu icon is clicked

The menu appears to opens upwards, but my browser doesn't scroll up when it does, so it's hidden from me. Confusing.

Perhaps it's a browser thing? FF 28.0 on OSX 10.9

  13. Font size on mobile needs to be smaller

The subject says it all. Referring to the new beta site. Very muco unusably large and non-downscalable on my S4/Chrome.

Currently, the way to do this is to click on the three bars next to the ratings widget, and select “remove from wish list”.

  15. Stars Should Remain Orange After Rating Movie

I've just been going through the LONG list of recommendations on the beta & rating movies that I've seen (which turns the blue stars orange) ... I inadvertently clicked off the page I was on & when I returned to where I left off, I noticed that the stars on movies I'd already rated were blue again. It'd be great if the stars could remain orange once you've rated a movie so that it's clear that you've already rated it (like on Netflix, where the red stars turn & stay yellow after you rate a movie) ... EXCELLENT work, BTW!…

  16. Multiple genres in filter feature

When filtering results by things like release year and number of ratings, I'd like to filter by multiple genres. Currently MovieLens only supports a single genre at a time. E.g.,

    https://beta.movielens.org/explore?genre=science%20fiction&minPop=500&maxPop=1000&minYear=1980&sortBy=avgRating&page=3

searches for science fiction movies, but I'd like to also see action movies. Can you support "genre=science%20fiction&genre=action"?

The most recent update to movielens now has a multi-genre sesarching in the search tools. If you pick multiple genres you can limit to only movies with ALL of the genres, or get all movies with ANY of those movies.

  17. Keep the movie tuner

MovieLens has a feature called the "movie tuner" that shows similar movies, and allows you to navigate based on tagging information. Keep it in the new version!

  18. Hover over options such as add to wishlist

Instead of the little menu by the rating where you can choose to add a movie to your wishlist etc. it would be much nicer to have those options while hovering over the poster. (And, as another person suggested, have the title.)

Since the posters are so large, I think hover over options would look really nice with the overall look.

I’m going to mark this as completed, since we now have the “pin” wishlist widget on each movie tile.

  19. Allow me to view my rated movies

I could not find an option to see the movies I already rated. It had good suggestions and I would like to use it as reference to see some again.
