hide movies rated
there should be an option to see only suggestion to movies I haven't seen/rated yet. I have to pass through the same movies over and over to see new suggestions

Deduction variables
It would be cool if I will be able to exclude definitely not interesting for me movies from the recommendation list: for example, I do not want to see any movies with a specific actor, movies about gays, or movies about certain time period why I still have to scroll manually among proposed movies ?

Upload file with ratings
I have file wich I exported from another movies web-database. It has names of the movies, basic information (release year, director, duration) and my rating from 1 to 10. And there would be nice idea if I can upload xls/csv/txt - I don't wanna rating over 1500 movies again

Add most popular tags to statistics
More or less what is says. Show a list of tags that correlate most positively with high movie ratings. This happens with genres but could be more fine-grained.

Need to be able to share ratings publicly.
Someone asked me to summarize my movie tastes, so I went on here and rated 100 movies to get a better idea of how to describe them. Seems like you should be able to optionally make your ratings and statistics public for others to see and share as a link like movielens.org/users/myusername.

Facebook connect
Great site with great recommendations. Only thing missing for me is a Facebook connect that would bring more users and that would allow me to share movie recommendations with others.
Also a great feature would be to have the ability to create "playlists" like on Spotify, where you can send a list of movies to a friend or where you can generate a list of recommendations based on that playlist (the "radio" option in spotify)

Personal Categories
To aid recommendation it would be nice to be able to build categories, or playlists rather, into which one could assign various films. Recommendations could then be given for films relating to others specifically within that list as opposed to all of your ratings or within tags or genre....

Report missing movies after imdb import
I have noticed that the number of movies i have on imdb is higher than the one´s i have here.
i found out that when we use the import tool, the site doenst "bring" the movies that are missing from the database and it would be difficult to see what´s missing, i would have to go torugh more than 3500 movies ...
so , after the import , we should get a msg of the imdb id that are missing, that way we can use the volunteer page and add them.in my case the difference is .. 400 movies.…

Give "spotlight" to Volunteers
People that add movies to the site and improve the database as well as the recommendation system should have some kind of ... reward. in the end of the movie page it should say : "movie added by UserX"

dynamic recommendations
In the morning my mood is like "get stuff done fast" and I like upbeat things like music that's fast rock or punk.
My mood changes during the day. I think movielens is giving recommendations for my "average mood" very well. However if I were to give a recommender some indication of what mood I am CURRENTLY feeling then I think the recommender really would do better to incorporate my current mood into the recommendations it outputs.

make recommendations better...
Great concept. This used to be my favorite feature in Netflix (they gave really on-point recommendations), but they have since done away with the feature assumingly because they want to promote their streaming service (and divert attention from the 90%+ movies not offered on streaming). What would it take to make your results better? (lack of data, algorithms, other?). I was searching for something just like Movielens, the problem is that your results for recommendations aren't so great.

Create personal lists and share with the world
It would be cool to create personal lists; like for example "Best Movies of 2015" and we could share we the world our taste and recommendations =)

Add "Movies you added" to "Your Activity" section.
It would be nice to track the movies you have added to movielens database. Currently there seems to be no such possibility.

Import jinni.com personal ratings
Jinni.com has just ended their service and sent everyone's personal ratings to their email. Therefore, lots of people would like to import their ratings to MovieLens.
Please, make your import thingy to work its magic with jinni's rating file in csv-format! All you need to do is to match Title.
Here is a sample of jinni.xls format

I felt that your bias or weightage for anime or animation tags is quite high.

Permanently clear the automated search
When looking through the "top picks for you" section, there is an automated search blurb that reads "dumb but funny,slapstick,stupidity,cerebral,imagination,weird". It's frustrating to have to clear this every time, so that the movie suggestions don't only fall under those terms.

Don't display existing ratings
You will probably get ratings closer to what the user actually feels if you don't display the existing rating for the film. Maybe a 'recommendation mode' where the rating is displayed and a 'rating mode' where it isn't?
