dynamic recommendations
In the morning my mood is like "get stuff done fast" and I like upbeat things like music that's fast rock or punk.
My mood changes during the day. I think movielens is giving recommendations for my "average mood" very well. However if I were to give a recommender some indication of what mood I am CURRENTLY feeling then I think the recommender really would do better to incorporate my current mood into the recommendations it outputs.
For music, this morning I listened to Rage Against the Machine while I did the dishes. But during a more meditative time of day I need something like ambient or Dave Brubeck's jazz.
Humans are moody. Recommenders should take one example of what music (or movie) I would watch RIGHT NOW, and incorporate that into the algorithm. I do not always want ambient, although sometimes it's the best thing for me. OTher times I want more like Eye of the Tiger.
