    I would suggest going at least back into the 70s. if it isn't a special effects heavy movie, the culture isn't so different that it will feel foreign. And then, from there, go by what I call "the 30 minute rule". If you thought you weren't going to like it, and after 30 minutes, you still couldn't care less what happpens, one-star it and move on. You'll see those older movies fall off pretty quickly.
