Hi MovieLens users! We recently launched our first major revision to MovieLens since 2003! Please help us grow in the right direction by giving us thoughtful feedback on the design and functioning of the new user experience.

Ideas, questions, and bug reports are all welcome here.

How can we improve MovieLens? (if you have multiple suggestions, please submit them separately)

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  2. Report missing movies after imdb import

    I have noticed that the number of movies i have on imdb is higher than the one´s i have here.
    i found out that when we use the import tool, the site doenst "bring" the movies that are missing from the database and it would be difficult to see what´s missing, i would have to go torugh more than 3500 movies ...
    so , after the import , we should get a msg of the imdb id that are missing, that way we can use the volunteer page and add them.

    in my case the difference is .. 400 movies.…

  4. Sort tag based on movies already rated

    in the rate and tag feature, list movies based on if we rated them and the number of tags they have. the current rate and tag just lists movies that I haven't watched and probably won't be able to (since they're not streaming). Also recommended tags would be smart - ask users if a tag that other movies like this have would apply to this movie.

  5. Separate actor/director search

    Previously, the actor/director search seemed to be separate. Now, when I click on the director of a film, I'm also getting films in which they have an acting role. This is pretty much removing the utility of the function, and something on which I hope the course can be reversed.

  10. Allow users to suggest 'similar movies'

    I just watched Sion Sono's 'The Whispering Star', for which MovieLens currently suggests no similarities. I've added some tags myself but no-one else has yet. The immediate film I'd think of it being similar to is David Lynch's 'The Straight Story'. Looking at the tags for that film, though, it seems unlikely the two films would be paired up by system tags alone because other than 'slow', the majority of the 'Straight Story' tags- eg. 'brothers', 'road trip', 'David Lynch'- will have nothing in common with the ones for 'Whispering Star'. Perhaps a 'Community Recommends' thing could help pair disparate…

    e.g. you liked X director, here's more from them, or you liked this genre, here's some more, or this actor, here's some obscure/popular movies you might like, classics/recent, etc, with the option to hide that suggestion category.

  14. (OUT OF 100) Add an option where user can also rate the movie out of 100

    Sometimes I feel like I would rate the movie for example 8.5 there isn't an option to do that. So, please add one. SORRY about the bad grammar if it's wrong.
