Options to hide posters / alternative layout
I personally have zero use for the posters. Completely unnecessary clutter. So at minimum an option to hide the posters would be nice. A more preferred approach would be an alternative layout similar to the current old layout. I want to see much information easily and dislike "dumbed down" mobile layouts which hide nearly all relevant information behind several clicks etc.
There are many opinions in this thread, thanks everyone! We released new widgets in response. Please try the new version (compact tiles and list view).
I’m going to close this idea, since we took a reasonable shot at addressing the most common ideas here. Happy to hear follow-up ideas.

@Leon there are some instructions here https://beta.movielens.org/info/posts/version-4.0.2-announcement/

So how do I get these new layout widgets?

I'd like to see text information about the film - year, title (which isn't always obvious on a poster), genre, language, and an IMDB link. I wouldn't ever click a netflix link for information, though I realize it might be helpful to boost revenue to have it there. I wouldn't call this "additional information" - I would just consider it basic information.
Clicking each movie poster sounds like a great way to make it really difficult to get all the information I'm after. Waiting for hover text would not work if I'm on my phone. I also like to see a lot of options at once and agree that the posters take up a lot of space and don't contribute anything.
I love that movielens is text-based, full-featured, and very basic in its instructions. I would not be as interested in yet another site with a minimalist interface and a screen full of big photos.

I suggest option to show smaller covers, and the title in the mouse hover, like this:

I like seeing year of release as sometimes there are mulitple remakes of a film. I like to know main actors, genre and language. Links to Netflix is useless to me as I am not in America, it is actually a bit annoying! I prefered IMDb link as I found that provides lots of helpful information to help me decide if it is a film I would like to watch. Can you please put an IMDb link back?
I like list views as the posters view takes up too much space. I like to see a lot of options at once.

I would definitely be interested in release date, genre, MPAA, links to IMDB, and Netflix availability. Country and language would also be helpful.
I would also like to have "hidden" movies be hidden as a default, and be able to set up other viewing defaults such as release year or be able to block genres such as children's, horror, war. -

"What types of additional information are you after, specifically, when you’re looking through your recommendations?"
As stated before: I'd like to see title, year, genres, languages and imdb link. Bonus from easy access to actors, director(s) and added to movielens date.

I agree that a compact view is needed. The large movie posters require too much scrolling; I like that the old movielens site packs a lot of information on a single screen. As long as there's a compact option like that, I'll be happy.
As already pointed out, the clickable corner on movie posters is not obvious.

Please don't get rid of the useful and usable list that explains it all.
The title - year - genre(s) - tags - imdb - fast actor/director dropdown.
Really. People can read. Movie cover without proper unified text is horror. Might work with netflix kind of service that you use with television and remote.

Completely missed the clickable corner.
That approach would work for the things I mentioned which would be nice to see without loading the entire page. -
Some responses to the clarification:
* Good to hear what's useful to you, thanks!
* The movie cards have a clickable corner to flip them over - they have some of the info you're looking for. We're looking into ways of making this flip interaction more obvious. -

I'd like to see title, year, genres, languages and imdb link in a list type of fashion.
In the current new layout I can't see any of this information. Except maybe the tile in the (to me) unnecessary poster. As it is at the moment the list view is useless in my opinion.Being able to see see the actors, director, release date, ratings count and exact prediction without having to load the film page would be great too. Maybe somekind of hover box or modal.
It's also somewhat unclear which is a recommendation and which is a rating with the stars.
