An app would be nice.
Probably would be easier than the website on a phone.

Similar Movies, more search tools
When viewing similar movies provide more search tools, as seen elsewhere on the site. Specifically, the tool I would use the most is an option to show only unrated movies.

sort suggestions based on predicted ratings
Maybe this is already possible, but I don't see it. I just want to see the movies that movielens predicts I'll rate the highest. right now movie lens only suggests movies that I would rate between 4-4.5 stars. When I go to the top picks and sort by recommended. then it only shows me 4.1 star movies.
Meanwhile my friend tells me I need to watch the Shawshank redemption, I search it on MovieLens and get a predicted score of 4.9! I'm scratching my head wondering, why am I getting a recommendation for some weird looking movie called Jojo Rabbit…

Make movies sortable by length
Pretty self-explanatory. It would be nice to have movie length as an option under filters as well.
1 voteInteresting idea. I think that should be pretty do-able.

Suggestions filter by where you can watch.
It would be great to see the most recommend movies that are available on the platforms I subscribe to. I have ran into the issue that there is a movie you recommend and I want to watch it but I have to use another service to see if it is streaming anywhere. Wasted time for a lot of people who won't buy or rent old movies since we already pay monthly subscriptions.
3 votesI think we would love to have this feature, but we've had some consistent issues with finding a good and free source of this information.
If anyone knows a good source of this information, do let us know and we can look into adding this feature in some way.

new way to sort films
honestly i dont know how thats not a feature yet - to have the ability to sort movies we havent watched yet by the rating the site predicts because the wizard prediction system is pretty good

Search By: IMDB ID and/or TMDB ID
I'd like to be able to search by IMDB ID and/or TMDB ID, I noticed most of the movies have both of these IDs already indexed, it'd be cool if I could lookup a movie based on them.
Example:
https://movielens.org/explore?q=tt0114709Should return Toy Story instead of an error.
12 votesAn interesting idea that sounds pretty doable. I'll keep this in mind next time we're putting a new feature together to see if we can't get a team on it.

Credit Writers
You guys need to credit writers for films. Writing is the most important component of a good film. The site should include writer credits and writers should be a search field. Tis is an ergregious oversight by your organization.
1 voteI'll see if we 1) have this information available to us from our sources of data and 2) have it currently stored for enough of the movies. I do agree it would be a nice improvement if the data is there and trustworthy.

Filter by Length / Duration
Add a Length / Duration filter. Sometimes you have just a short amount of time and want to see something that fits that window. Other times, you are in the mood to see a 3 hour behemoth . Since the informations is already there, it shouldn't be diffcult to implement.
62 votesThanks for the idea – yes, we do have the information to add that filter, good to know that there’s a use case!

Set a movie as "seen" (without rating it)
Hi, I know you guys are working on recommandations and ratings, but for us (users), it would be great to be able to set a movie as seen, without rating it.
This is useful if you want to keep a "log" of what you know you have seen, but without having to rate it (either because you don't remember the movie or because you want to rate it later).83 votesThanks for the idea! We have certainly discussed this feature, and could implement it if it gathers support here.

Explore ratings of users that share similar taste
Allow to explore the list of films rated by other users that have a similar taste for movies

Link to films available on Netflix
It would be useful to be able to filter films by only those available on Netflix
Right now have to do a search for any film that has a high rating from movielens

Integrate with Letterboxd!
An integration with Letterboxd would be fantastic, because tags and ratings could automatically be sent over from one site to the other. I think it'd add for better suggestions, too, as you'd be able to base suggestions on how many times someone has seen a particular movie or genre.
38 votesThanks for the suggestion. Letterboxd does provide RSS feeds, so this is theoretically possible. Let’s see if others vote for this feature.

API for creating and updating a profile
This is the best movie recommender...I want to incorporate movie lens recommendations into an app I am working on. Just want to be able to create account on movie lens for people coming from my site, add ratings for movies to movielens, and request movie predictions for other movies.

Why this project doesn't have a Github?
It would be great if exists any open repository with commiters and contributors and people could implement more interesting features together?
14 votesIt’s a cool idea, and worth further consideration. However, it is currently unlikely to happen given MovieLens’s utility as a research platform for our graduate students.

Stop recommending very old movies when I clearly do not watch/rate them.
Every time I try to come back and use the site I'm always driven away by the need to hide pages and pages of old movie recommendations.
13 votesThanks for the feedback. We’re working on this.

Would be MUCH BETTER If i could rate "actors"
Wish i could rate actors.. There're some movies I'll never watch if there's some actor I dislike in it. I hate poor acting =\

Separate playlists?
I have different expectations for an action movie than I do for a drama. Sometimes I am in the mood for something different than I am normally looking for.
Is it possible to create separate playlists? I want at least three playlists, one for movies that will make me think, one for movies that will make me feel, and one for mindless fun.
I think that Pandora handles this well. I generally like singer/songwriter mellow stuff (Sarah McLachlan, Dar Williams, The Hush Sound, Leonard Cohen), but I also like a little bit of metal (Sabaton, Nightwish). Putting them on a…
12 votesGreat idea. We’ve been pondering “mood-based recommendations” for a while.

Use my viewing habits to sort suggestions, not just predicted ratings.
MovieLens is great at predicting what I might rate films; I've got no problem with that. What it doesn't seem to predict all that well, however, is that I'm rarely going to be in the mood to watch foreign films from before 1970. Yeah, I will probably rate them highly, but some consideration should be made for my actual viewing habits - because those aren't the types of films I've told MovieLens that I regularly watch.
Out of the 542 films that I've rated on MovieLens, only 19 were from before 1970, and only 26 were foreign language. With that…
