why my favorite movies (5 stars) have <4 star predicted
Basically my favorite movies (5 stars) have <4 star predicted, being them only 2, these two alone should be the pinnacle of my recommendations. By that the algorithm should automatically point the predicted rate to the maximum. In fact, most of the other film rating predictions on my list are accurate enough, with a margin of error, but those two 5 stars movies are very poorly predicted by the algorithm. Giving more importance to those 5 stars movies could have a noticeable effect in the general prediction and thus the recommendation system.

Similar Movies, more search tools
When viewing similar movies provide more search tools, as seen elsewhere on the site. Specifically, the tool I would use the most is an option to show only unrated movies.

filter for stars (predicted as well as avg user ratings)
Currently, there seems to be a filter for "number of ratings". A new filter should be added which can be used to filter the movies on the basis of predicted stars for me - >4.1 stars.
One more filter should be added to filter movies on the basis of avg user reviews - >4 stars

Rate separate factors
I often face a dilemma because I find many terrible movies enjoyable to watch. I feel conflicted about rating a bad quality movie higher than a good quality movie, although I do it anyway. If I could rate movie quality and enjoyability separately, that would solve it for me.

What Does a Title Highlighted in Yellow Mean?
When I'm browsing suggestions, some of the movie's title cards will have a yellow background, while the others are just white. I couldn't find an explanation as to why?

Improve the "Watch Trailer" feature.
Some movies seem to point to incorrect videos instead of the actual trailer when clicking "Watch Trailer", for example a few I found today:
https://movielens.org/movies/1945
https://movielens.org/movies/1090
https://movielens.org/movies/163645
https://movielens.org/movies/142488
https://movielens.org/movies/26131I'm not sure how it's being done. Though using YouTubes API query endpoint to search for movie name + " trailer" and using the first result shouldn't cause this issue no?

When rating movies, show us similar movies we’ve rated and our scores so our ratings are gauged better and stay more accurate
When rating a movie, it would be great to see what we rated something similar. For example if we think movie A was pretty amazing but when we go to rate it we noticed we liked Movie B better, we would give movie A a slightly lower.
This would piggy back with ideas that we can be recommended movies that have high correlation with other certain users that have rated the same movies a super high score.
For example, if person A & person B gave Thriller movies 1 and 2 five stars but person B hasn’t seen movie 3.…

I started using movielens a lot since i dicosvered it, but both in windows 10 (with firefox) and on a web browser in my android phone i find the site slow to load and to navigate around sections. it's really noticeable on phone devices.
Thank you for your time and effort.

short movies
short movies should be excluded from the site. I do not want to search for movies for hours and end up watching 5 minute movies.

Fix UserVoice feedback links

Streaming or purchase sources
It would be great to have streaming sources identified in each movie's listing, for example, hyperlinked to Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. where available. (Country specific would be ideal -- I'm in Canada and streaming options here are different than in the US.) I'm sure you could work out associate revenue when links are followed. It would save us time looking them up.

Allow users to suggest 'similar movies'
I just watched Sion Sono's 'The Whispering Star', for which MovieLens currently suggests no similarities. I've added some tags myself but no-one else has yet. The immediate film I'd think of it being similar to is David Lynch's 'The Straight Story'. Looking at the tags for that film, though, it seems unlikely the two films would be paired up by system tags alone because other than 'slow', the majority of the 'Straight Story' tags- eg. 'brothers', 'road trip', 'David Lynch'- will have nothing in common with the ones for 'Whispering Star'. Perhaps a 'Community Recommends' thing could help pair disparate…

Ignore caps
Have you thought about ignoring capital letters in tags? There's tags like "medieval" and "Medieval". This merge would help show more accurate tag results, especially for less popular films with this issue.
1 voteThis is something we want to do (in fact I would say half our code does ignore capitalization), so I would call it a bug that the other half doesn’t!)

Recomendations
Whatever your system is it isn't very good. I rated a movie a 1 star and you recommend the sequel? Why would i want to watch the sequel to a movie I hated? You need a complete overall over your system clearly.
1 voteWhile we won’t be overhauling our recommendation algorithm, we do hope to review the tuning of their parameters. Until them, please see the comment for advice on how your personal recommendations might be improved.

API to notify on new ratings
It would be nice to have an API where the user could register to get a request when some events occur, like when the user rates a movie.
With that we could integrate with services like IFTTT to trigger some actions upon rating like sharing with friends, add to other services, etc.1 vote -
Allow a page for "rare movies" "unusual dislikes" "unusual likes"
These used to be links to see all result but now it just shows you 5 or so and you can't see the others
